This song represents the reporter that comes to gatsbys house to question him about if he has anything to say about what happened.
Quotes
It is invariably saddening to look through new eyes at things upon which you have expended your own powers of adjustment.
He wanted to recover something, some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy. His life had been confused and disordered since then, but if he could once return to a certain starting place and go over it all slowly, he could find out what that thing was.
Can't repeat the past?…Why of course you can!
He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God. So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her. At his lips' touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete

Chapter 5

Singing in the rain lyrics:

I'm singing in the rainJust singing in the rainWhat a glorious feelin'I'm happy againI'm laughing at cloudsSo dark up above
The sun's in my heartAnd I'm ready for loveLet the stormy clouds chaseEveryone from the placeCome on with the rainI've a smile on my faceI walk down the laneWith a happy refrainJust singin',Singin' in the rain
Dancin' in the rainDee-ah dee-ah dee-ahDee-ah dee-ah dee-ahI'm happy again!I'm singin' and dancin' in the rain!I'm dancin' and singin' in the rain...
Why am I smilingAnd why do I sing? Why does September Seem sunny as spring? Why do I get upEach morning and start?Happy and head up With joy in my heartWhy is each new taskA trifle to do?Because I am livingA life full of you.

*The lyrics in this song symbolize how gatsby feels is this chapter. Everytime Daisy is around the sun comes out and he is happy. But when Daisy is not around Gatsby gets sad and it starts to rain outside and the mood is very sad.

Quotes:

Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes.

"If it wasn't for the mist we could see your home across the bay....You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock."

"There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams - not through her own fault but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion. It had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion."

"Only wind and the trees which blew the wires and made the lights go off and on again as if the house had weakened into the darkness"

chapter 4

In the picture people are partying at Jay Gatsby house. This is show how Rich Gatsby is because he got a Mansion. Most of these people are not even invited. Gatsby's house was where all the bootlegging went on. Everybody at the party was well dressed with expensive clothes. Even though Gatsby's throws party no one really ever see's him there. It seems like hes hiding at his own party but then again no knows him or how he looks like.

In this chapter Gatsby spends the day with Nick and goes have lunch together. Then we really gets to know about Gatsby's life that we didn't know about.

Quotes

" At nine o' clock one morning late in July Gatsby's gourgous car lurched up the rocky drive to my door and gave out a burst of melody from its three noted horn it was the first time he had called on me though i had gone to two of his parties. "
* This quote is talking about how
Gatsby personally made an effort to
get to know Nick.
*Gatsby opened up to nick and we
got to know a lot about him.

"He saw me looking with admiration at his car. 'It's pretty isn't it old sport,' he jumped off to give me a better view."
*Gatsby was showing off his money
by braggin about his car.

" A phrase began to beat in my ears with a sort of heady excitement: "There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired."
Filled with faces dead and gone. Filled with friends gone now forever. I can't forget so long as I live the night they shot Rosy Rosenthal there....they shot him three times in the belly and drove away.

Chapter 3

The car symbolized Gatsbys wealth. Gatsby had the most money out of everyone in East and West Egg. He was known for his expencive cars. He would use them to transport people to and from his parties like it was a taxi. Gatsby throws a lot of parties at his house, some of the people he does not even invite, they just show up. His best car was his Rolls Royce.

This chapter also focuses on the gossip that the
people in the book spread. Almost everyone in this book have started, or contributed to the gossip.
Rumors are spread about almost everyone. Especally Gatsby. One of the rumors spread about him is that he killed someone before he moved to west egg.

Quotes

"On Mondays, eight servents including an extra gardner, toiled all day with mops and scrubbing-brushes and hammers and garden-shears, reparing the ravages of the night before"

*This shows just how wild and crazy
Gatsby's parties are, the poeple just
go there and go crazy. sometimes
with no respect for his home.

"Every friday five crates of oranges and leamons arrived from a fruiterer in New York - every Monday these same oranges and leamons keft his back door in a pyramid of pulpless halves"
*This quote shows how wealthy Gatsby
is.
*He can afford to have imported fruit
delevered to his home on a weekly
basis.

"I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby's house I was one of the few guests who had actualy been invited. People were not invited - they went there"
*This shows how people who are
not even invited to Gatsby's house
just end up going anyways.
*They invite themselves
It takes two to make an accident.

Chapter 2

This photo is of the eyes of Dr. Tj Eckleburg.
These eyes are bule and gigantic, their retinas are one yard high. The spectacles themselves are yellow. Dr. Eckleburg is an eye docter, He made this billboard to fatten his practice in the borough of Queens. Unfortunatly he himself turned blind and moved away leaving his giant billboard behind. The glasses can be seen in the valley of ashes.

*The valley of ashes is a deserted city, bounded on one side of a small, foul river. The only building in sight is a small block of yellow brick sitting on the edge of the waste land.

* The glasses seem to look over the city, people going by on the train usualy stop and jus stair at them.

*The grey dust fills the air making it hard to see anything in the valley, but when the winds blow the dust out of the way the first and only thing you see is the billboard of the eyes.

Quotes

"Though i was curious to see her, i had no desire to meet her - but i did"
"Nick is talking about meeting Tom
Buchannon mistress"
"Tom is cheating on his wife Daisy
with another women"
"Daisy is aware of this, Tom makes
no attempt to keep it a secert"

"Dosent her husband object?." "Wilson? He thinks she goes to see her sister in New York. Hes so dumb he dosent even know hes alive"
"Nick is asking if Tom's mistress'
husband knows/cares about
what is going on."

He borrowed somebody's best suit to get married in, and never told me about it, and the man came after it one day when he was out...I gave it to him and then I lay down and cried...all afternoon.

I married him because I thought he was a gentleman...I thought he knew something about breeding, but he wasn't fit to lick my shoe.
